GENERAL ADVICE FROM CURRENT STUDENTS

Dereham provides a friendly, relaxed atmosphere that emphasises that study is down to the student and the student alone.  Although there is plenty of support and advice readily available, the sixth form provides what I would consider as the perfect atmosphere for the transition between high school and university.

I liked meeting up and making new friends and the staff are very friendly too.

Meeting deadlines is the most important part of sixth form work.  If you do this, you get more support from teachers as time is on your side.  If you fail to meet deadlines, less support is received and grades suffer as work is scrambled at the last minute!
Hit the ground running!  Even if you don't intend to go to university after sixth form and think you only need low grades try damn hard at AS and you'll thank yourself later for keeping your options open.

When you start AS be prepared for the step-up from GCSE, but also be aware that the things you learn about are far more interesting and exciting.  Your learning is more independent and therefore in some ways can make you more interested in the subject.

I like the environment - its clean and comfortable to work in.
Take a chance!  I took a chance on Media Studies - a subject I had never studied before and am now hoping to do a degree in the subject.
Get organised; this solves most problems!

Think carefully.  Pick subjects you enjoy.  Grades matter when applying to university as much as the subjects for most courses.

There is more work than GCSE; however, if you spread the work out it will seem like less to learn.  Learn to use your free periods wisely.

Hard work but definitely worth it!

Try to keep on top of the work load and use all of the resources available to you to their fullest extent, including the library and librarian who is always helpful.
Do not choose a subject because it has a reputation for being 'easy' - all A level subjects are hard work.
Time management is most important - make sure your folders are organised.
Overall, sixth form is challenging but also is a relaxed environment which is different and more enjoyable than back in the school days.
I came from a smaller high school with only a few other people; I was a bit anxious about a new and different environment but the students are friendly and the staff helpful - Dereham comes highly recommended
Don't expect it to be easy but do expect it to be fun.  You meet so many different people and as long as you work hard you will make it easier for yourself
It is not the massive change from high school that I thought it would be.  I would still come here if given the choice again.
Take all the advice the teachers give - they are trying to help.  Don't be afraid to ask questions; most likely you aren't the only one in the class thinking it!
Work hard; its only for two years! Stay committed and attend every possible lesson as there is so much involved.
You need to balance your work and social life well.  College is a big step but its not as daunting as you might think
