UCAS AND APPLYING TO UNIVERSITY

It is essential that you apply to universities as soon as possible after starting in Year 13.  Your tutor will give you plenty of help with your application and details about the process of applying through UCAS - Universities and Colleges Admissions Service

You will be given comprehensive guidance regarding your application to higher education. It is important that you know how to go about this process.

The application form is in four sections:-

  • The first page requires personal details:
  • The second page requires details of certificated qualifications and exams to be taken:
  • The third page requires details about employment to date. The main part of this page is about selling yourself to the Admissions Tutor - The Personal Statement. Details of how to complete this aspect of the form can be found on this web page:
  • The fourth page is the School Reference which will be completed when you have finished all the other sections. The completed form will then be sent to UCAS.

You should have given lengthy consideration to the type and style of course and your preferred choices of institution. When you have received offers from your selections, UCAS will then ask you to make a firm decision as to which one is your first choice and to select one as an insurance option. Advice and help is always available during these stages from your tutor, Mr Richardson and Ms O'Grady

Work with your tutor to make your personal statement the best it can be. The advice from the experts is to make yourself sound 'unstoppable'. Ensure your tutor knows about the variety of skills and strengths you possess and about your activities and responsibilities at school and beyond. This knowledge will help your tutor to portray your suitability for your chosen course and career.

We have careers workbooks on VLE for each student at the Sixth Form - this can help with University applications, career planning etc

GAP YEAR

Taking a Gap Year is a good opportunity to undertake a worthwhile activity that might be linked to your future course of study, such as languages, business, sciences, or that might develop you as an individual.  Bear in mind, however, that with some subjects such as Mathematics, it may not be wise to let your techniques and skills get rusty!
