On Friday 13th October, we were lucky to have Linda Johnson from the University of Suffolk visit. Linda is an ex-nurse, and now teaches on several of the health degree courses at UCS.
During her visit she gave talks on:
a) nursing – what it’s like (the highs and the challenges)
b) how to apply successfully to health related degree courses (occupational therapy, social work, various nursing degrees, including mental health, adult, children’s, learning disability nursing etc, medicine…..) This will include how to get the necessary relevant experience.
Several students also had the opportunity to participate in a mock interview with Linda, which they thoroughly enjoyed and found useful for their applications.
One of our students, Abi, said: Linda was a great help, providing her wealth of knowledge on all areas of nursing and the health care sector in general. She gave detailed, thorough response to questions that couldn’t necessarily be answered if you had only limited experience in those professions. She gave a genuine perspective on what it was like to work in the health sector, so hearing what she had to say has helped make the decision of what to do in the future seem a lot less daunting.
