Collaborative Art Exhibition – Dereham Sixth Form College, Finborough School & Norwich School

On 23rd March students and staff attended a private viewing of an exhibition of artwork which celebrates the completion and success of Component One of their courses. The exhibition was a collaboration of excellence between Dereham Sixth Form College, Finborough School and Norwich School.

The exhibition was held at Finborough School, in Suffolk, and began at 6pm with a drinks and canapes reception. Below you can read an introduction to the exhibition by Mr Downey, Head of Art at Finborough School.

At a time when schools seem to be placing less emphasis on the Arts its refreshing to see so much creativity, idea generating and individuality in this exhibition.

The job market of the 21st Century is changing rapidly and the skills that are required are going to be diverse and changeable. However, we can be sure that creativity, visual communication and problem solving are going to be key skills required in any industry. I am sure you will agree whilst looking around this exhibition that the future is very bright.

The idea for this exhibition stemmed from a meeting held here in the Sky Room [their exhibition space] late last year, where Finborough School, Norwich School and Dereham Sixth Form College decided to collaborate by sharing knowledge, skills and best practice across a range of artistic disciplines. The sharing of information enriches teaching and enables the departments to push the students further to even higher standards.

I am personally very pleased that we can welcome Norwich School and Dereham Sixth Form College to Finborough School and that they have taken the considerable effort to transport their work to the Sky Room, especially at the busiest time of the year with exams looming. However, being able to view the calibre of other students work, I hope, will spur on every student leading up to their exams.

Finborough School, Norwich School and Dereham Sixth Form College are in an excellent position with a large number of Art and Design students obtaining places at some of the best Art institutions in the world. This exhibition is a great place to exchange ideas, reflect critically and of course develop networking skills in time for university.
