Pride Picnic for Mental Health

The student-led College Senate allows students to have a say on how the College is run, as well as the events that take place and the external work that the College partakes in. The Senate is divided into three committees: Teaching and Learning; Welfare; and Charity. The Senate consists of many hard-wording, dedicated people who are tireless in ensuring that students at Dereham Sixth Form College are happy and content and are led by a student-elected President and Vice-President.

As our current Year 13s have bowed out the committees have re-formed and the new Charity Committee has just held its first event. Head of the Senate, Abi, explains more:

“On Friday the 24th of June, the charity committee hosted a ‘pride picnic’ and bake sale to raise funds for mental health charities MindOut and Mind. MindOut is a charity that focuses on highlighting the mental health needs of LGBTQ+ youth. As June is commonly known as Pride month, we thought it would be fitting to show our support. The other charity that we decided to support is Mind (Norfolk and Waveney) which is also a mental health charity that offers support to anyone that might be in need.”

We would like to thank the Charity Committee for holding this event and thank everyone who purchased their yummy treats. Just over £50 was raised.
