On Friday, 3rd December Year 13 English students took a trip to London with Mrs Villarde and Ms Read. Arriving by train, we immediately went to Platform 9 3/4 to reenact some of our favourite Harry Potter moments, before travelling onwards to the British Library. The Treasures collection here displays some true literary gems, such as Jane Austen’s writing desk, Wilfred Owen’s handwritten poetry and illuminations by William Blake. We also enjoyed the Paul McCartney lyrics exhibition.
After a lunch stop in Covent Garden, we visited the National Gallery to take in some of the art of the periods we have been studying in Literature. We were amazed by the scale of the building and artwork. Before heading home we lost ourselves in Foyles bookshop, browsing their vast collection and purchasing a range of books to add to our own collections at home. Whilst the day was extremely tiring and we clocked up lots of steps on our watches, we had a great time and will have lots of inspiring memories to apply to our studies.
